Are All General Contractors Created Equal?

Are All General Contractors Created Equal?

Ok, so you’ve decided to finally get to that renovation project that you’ve been putting off for so long.  You’ve waited and deliberated and thought it through and now that you’ve made your mind up you want to get started as soon as possible.  But when you start looking for general contractors – especially in the Mississauga and Brampton area – you see that there are so many to choose from.  Are all general contractors created equal?  What makes one rise above the others?

All Women Contractors + 1 - the Mississauga general contractor for women

All Women Contractors + 1 – The General Contractor for Women

The biggest difference between All Women Contractors + 1 and other general contractors is pretty obvious by the name: AWC was started by Betty Lau and with one exception consists entirely of female contractors.  The “+ 1” was added a few years ago when electrician Larry Tosswill joined the team.

Few would argue that general contracting is a male dominated industry that attracts the manliest of the manly.  This difference makes dealing with All Women Contractors + 1 like a breath of fresh air.  What’s more, because general contracting is so male dominated, many of the contractors that you’ll deal with can be intimidating to deal with, responding to questions about the work they are proposing and how they see it being completed with short uninformative answers or even grunts and sighs.

Enter Betty Lau of All Women Contractors + 1.  Since the day she started working as a general contractor she always believed in taking the time to fully explain what she has in mind, how long she thinks it will take and what she’ll need from the customer.  She uses language that is easy to understand, even for someone who doesn’t know a lot about renovation projects, and will spend as long as necessary to build a high level of trust and confidence.

A Clean Worksite Makes a Happy Customer

There’s nothing more deflating than coming home after a long day at work, eager to see how your basement, bathroom or kitchen project is coming along, only to find a worksite that looks like a tornado has blown through.

Betty ensures that there is an experienced and professional site supervisor on every project All Women Contractors + 1 does.  At the end of the day the work crew takes the time to clean up after themselves, putting all of their tools away, organizing all of their materials tidily in a corner or along a wall, and sweeping up any debris or mess that has been made during the day.

An Informed Customer is a Happy Customer

The site supervisor takes the time at the end of each day to update the customer on what was accomplished, what the crew didn’t get to and if there are any changes to the project timeline, and what the next steps of the project are.  Usually this is a verbal conversation but it could also be through text message or email and often includes pictures.

If any unexpected issues arise during the job the site supervisor contacts the customer immediately.  Usually Betty and her crew will find a workaround to keep the job on budget and on time but All Women Contractors + 1’s customers have always appreciated being kept up to date on the status of their projects.

Conclusion

There are lots of general contractors in the Mississauga, Brampton and surrounding areas but if you’re looking for a company that will do a great job on your upcoming renovation project then contact All Women Contractors + 1.  We take the time to fully explain the work we want to do for you, we’ll keep you informed as the work is being done, and you can look forward to a clean worksite every day when you get home from work!
